No modern home decoration is complete without the inclusion of hinges - an essential hardware type for doors, wardrobes, cabinets, and bathrooms. Despite their small size, these hinges play a crucial role in providing stability and functionality to various household fixtures. To ensure proper installation, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Below, we will provide a guide on how to install hinges accurately and efficiently.
1、 Preparation before installation
1. Determine the hinge size to match the door
Before you proceed to install the hinge, it is of utmost importance to ensure that it fits well with the door's height, width, and thickness. Failure to verify these factors can lead to a hinge that won't bear much weight and compromise the door's performance in the long run. You also need to have suitable screws and other installation accessories that match the hinge design and type. Confirm that the number of screws required is available and correctly fits the hinge. Moreover, the installation position and number of hinges required must align with the door's design for a smooth and successful installation process.
2. Check the door frame with a level ruler
Prior to installation, it is crucial to ensure that all the necessary measurements are taken to verify the verticality of the outer and inner facades, as well as the levels of the upper horizontal height of the door frame. A level ruler should be used to double-check whether there are any minor deviations in any direction of the door frame. It is particularly important to pay close attention to the verticality of the left and right facades during the installation process, given that the double door seam's reserved size is only 15mm in advance. Any variations in the door frame's verticality in all directions must be accounted for when installing the door leaf.
3. Determination of hinge quantity
The base material of the door determines the number of door hinges required. Typically, lightweight doors like paintless doors or PVC only need two hinges for installation. However, for heavier doors like solid wood doors, it is necessary to install three hinges. This arrangement effectively supports the weight of the wooden door, preventing deformation and damage over time. It is crucial to carefully plan the positioning of the hinges for solid wood door installation to avoid uneven stress.
2、 Installation process
1. Slotting
Once you have identified where to install the wooden door hinge, it is important to create a groove on the side where the hinge will be fitted. The groove should have the same depth as the thickness of the single leaf plate. Once the groove has been created, lay the single leaf plate flat inside and ensure that the plate's surface is flush with the surface of the door pocket. This will help ensure a stable and secure hinge installation.
2. Tighten the hinge
It is essential to use matching screws while tightening the hinge to ensure proper fixation. The screws must be at a right angle to both the door pocket and edge. If the screws are at an angle, it can cause the hinge to compress when the door is closed. This repeated compressing and releasing of the hinge due to the improper screw alignment can significantly reduce its lifespan and affect the convenience of opening and closing the door.
3、 Post installation inspection
Once all the screws on the door leaf are securely fastened, the door should be tested by opening and closing it, both inwardly and outwardly. During this examination, it is important to inspect the flag-shaped hinges to ensure that they are operating smoothly.
To begin checking the door, open the door leaf and let it rest in the middle. You should then observe any slight swaying of the door leaf, which cannot be attributed to human or wind interference. In case there is a slight swing, employ a horizontal ruler to inspect the door frame column where the hinge is fixed. If there is no issue of the door frame column being unaligned, then it is imperative to verify and adjust the overall alignment of the upper and lower flag-shaped hinges along with their verticality. Checking and adjusting these essential components would ensure the door operates efficiently.
4、 Installation acceptance
Once the door hinge installation is complete, it is crucial to conduct a thorough inspection of the wooden door hinge. This inspection involves checking the flexibility of the hinge during its opening and closing motions, as well as examining the smoothness of the connection between the hinge and the door pocket. Additionally, it is essential to verify the completeness of the hinge installation. For optimal results, when using a mother and child hinge configuration, it is recommended to utilize 304 stainless steel material. This specific hinge is designed with a thickness of 3mm, which provides a noticeable sense of solidity and flexibility when held in hand, ensuring the proper standardization of hinge installation.
